What is the cheapest hotel to stay at in Downtown Chicago?
Cheap HotelsTressy S asked:
My boyfriend and I are going to Chicago in two weeks catching the train. He wants to stay at the Congress and I told him the price was $95.00 a night and he wants to see if there are any cheaper. Thanks in advance!

95 is actually a good price for a DT hotel. If I were you I would try Priceline (name your own price). You can look at biddingfortravel.com to see if people have been getting better rates, and at what hotels.

The Congress is in the South Loop where you’re close to the Museum Campus, Sears Tower, Printer’s Row, Buddy Guy’s, and the Art Institute. That’s a good price for that area…if you head about five or so blocks north to the river, there’s much more going on, but you’ll probably add a good hundred dollars a night to your bill for the location.

Every time I stay downtown I try Priceline and get great deals. (Name your own price). I have been at the Hyatt on Michigan for $60 a night depending on the time of year. You select the specific area you want (Congress is in the South Loop I believe) and the star level (I always start with 4-5 stars) and than choose your price. If you are not accepted sometimes they offer you another price (higher) or you can try again the next day.
Caveats: You prepay is the trick, so you have to be committed before you put in your bid and you don’t find out your hotel until after you purchase. It can be scary the first time but I have never had a bad hotel in Chicago and we visit every year to see my husbands family.

My sister just suggested The Seneca to me. I am going in a few weeks. I just booked a one-bedroom suite for $85. It’s a great location across the street from the Hancock Building.

I work in the hotel industry in chicago. I can tell you that $95 is a great price for dt chicago. Call around to different hotels and see who has the lowest rate.
FYI, when booking with expedia.com, hotels.com, priceline.com, etc…UNDERSTAND THAT YOU GET LOW RATES BECAUSE THEY CANNOT GUARANTEE YOUR ROOM TYPE. THEY CAN REQUEST A KING SIZE BED OR 2 BEDS, THEY CAN REQUEST SMOKING OR NON, BUT YOU GET WHAT THEY CALL RUN OF HOUSE…WHICH MEANS WHATEVER THE HOTEL HAS WHEN YOU GET THERE.
