What hotels in Amsterdam are close to all the main attractions (”coffee” houses) and are reasonably cheap?
Cheap HotelsPaul asked:
We are a group of mates going to Amsterdam for the first time. We want to be in the city centre in a nice hotel. Wouldn’t mind it being cheap and cheerful rather than very expensive. Any ideas where the most central and cheapest hotel (NOT a HOSTEL) in Amsterdam is? A few examples would be nice. Cheers

I stayed in a floating Hotel, they call it Amstel Botel, beside the Amsterdam Central Station. It is very near the main street of the city quite near the main attractions in the area. I think I spent about Euro85.00 per day that time, March or April 2002?

Most hotels are close enough to any attractions because of the infrastructure. You can take a tram or train and get anywhere easily unless your hotel is in the Schiphol-area that might take you more time in a train to get to Amsterdam.

I was just in Amsterdam last November. I know you said you don’t want to stay in a Hostel, but you should look into The Bulldog Hostel. It’s within walking distance of the train station, the cathedral, and plenty of other attractions. It also has its own “coffee shop.” If you don’t like the hostel-style accommodations, that’s no problem. I believe they offer hotel-style rooms there as well. My friend and I stayed in a 12-bed room, and it was very clean and safe. I know they have a website, just do a search for “The Bulldog, Amsterdam” and it should come up. Most of the people who work there speak English as well.

You can search for your hotel by location on one of these two sites:
