El Cortez hotel in old down town…its cheap like 20 bucks a night if you hit it right…safe? well it may not look safe but yes pretty safe .maybe not the best place to be walking around 3am
I would recommend checking out BookMe.com… You can compare all the major travel websites in 60 seconds, and only search for the ones you want. Keep checking, and eventually you find a GREAT deal! And they only search reputable/reliable sites, so you won’t need to worry about anything.
Finding an inexpensive hotel in Las Vegas is more a case of when you go rather than where you stay. If you avoid weekends, special events and large conventions, you will find bargains galore.
The El Cortez that was already suggested, is a good one for a bargain room. The 2008 ACG has a coupon**, you can get 2 nights, Sunday through Thursday for $15 per night.
**The coupon is for one of the Pavilion rooms. They are small, older rooms just off the casino floor(1 floor up, by stairs). We actually like the convenience, of only having to walk up the one flight of stairs rather than waiting for elevators. The EC does have a “Tower” and the rooms are not only huge, they are very nice. So, what we do if we want a tower room rather than one of the Pavillion rooms is, “show up late” , if we arrive after 7pm they have generally given all of the Pavillion rooms out and are stuck with upgrading us to the tower :))
Recently, I have seen rates for Binion’s as low as $14
Our favorite is Main Street Station
IMO, MSS is a great place to stay/play/eat - If you like to play(slots/Video Poker) MSS is one of the very best, and they comp the low-roller better than any casino we have ever played at. We play a few hours(4-5) of quarter video poker between us per day and we never have never paid for anything at anytime at MSS.
The Four Queens is pretty nice.
The Golden Nugget is the only four star hotel downtown. Sometimes you can find rates in the $39-$49 range. The GN is very nice and all, the only thing I don’t like is that they have removed all of the games we liked to play.
Yeah, check out the Plaza, Fitzgeralds, The Las Vegas Club, Binions Horseshoe, El Cortez, Gold Spike, the Fremont and the Golden Gate downtown. They are all fine hotels with good rates.

People from Hawaii love the California Hotel in downtown Las Vegas. It’s cheap and the area is safe.
