I recommend The Queen Kapiolani Hotel. For the location the prices can’t be beat.
The best part about this hotel is that it is one block from the beach, and there are rooms where you have an ocean view out one window and a view of Diamond Head out the other. It’s across the street from the Honolulu Zoo, so you wake in the morning to the sounds of elephants. It’s seen better days, but I’ve stayed in much worse.
We’ve stayed there the last couple of times we’ve been to Honolulu.
I recommend the Aqua Island Colony Hotel in Waikiki.
My boyfriend and I booked the basic hotel room package when we went. When we got there, they upgraded us to a suite for like $5 more a night which was amazing! It’s 2 blocks from the beach. There are plenty of restaurants and shopping around it. It’s also on a quiet block but once you go down a block you have a lot around you. They have an outdoor pool and jacuzzi on location. The staff were really nice to us and gave us ideas on things to do in the area.
i did priceline.com and got 80 per night for the hilton prince kuhio hotel right on waikiki beach. its a 3 or 4 star hotel i forget but its really nice and thats an amazing rate for hawaii, esp on the beach
The Kapiolani Park end of Waikiki (your first poster’s response) is a great part of town for kids. There is so much to do for them there. Eighty bucks for the Prince is an incredible price. If you can get that price, grab it!!!
if there’s anyone in your family in(was in) the armed forced you could stay at the “Hale Koa” in the “Fort DeRussy Army Base” but you need proof. Aside from that Ohana East was good, too.

Just sleep on the beach. That’d be cheap. Or you could probably get the best deal here:
