I am staying in Las Vegas for 1-2 months. What areas are safe to find a motel/apartment?

I have the paper and looked at some of the furnished apartments listed, but have no idea whether they are ok. It seems a lot of them are located just off the Strip (behind the big hotels) or by Fremont Street…are they safe, clean, etc?
Do you know any motels or apartments that rent weekly or just monthly (no lease) that are cheap and safe.
Any and all suggestions would really be appreciated. I don’t know much about the surrounding suburbs of Vegas, so suggestions for those areas will be great too.

I stay in the Orleans.
Arizona Charlie’s too, but it’s not as safe.
The strip is more dangerous, if thats what youre talking about.

I would suggest looking somewhere near UNLV. There are a lot of inexpensive units in that area. There is a place that I have stayed in on Harmon that has single units, doubles and quads. It is a relatively safe area (for Vegas anyway), and a lot of amenities within easy walking distance.

I have visited people who live in The Jockey Club. That is just South of The Belagio and has some pretty neat views of the water shows. The apts. there seem really clean, nice, safe, and they are close to drugs stores, etc.. Be sure to ask what side the apt. is on. (so, they view is a good one). I do not know how much they charge. There is a little grocery type store on the main floor, chairs, etc. on the main floor, to sit, and walking distance to most of the strip.
