Park Savoy in Manhattan, 58th bet 6th and 7the ave

The Red Roof Inn on 34th or 35th in Manhattan was nice and not to expensive ($85.00/night, 2 adults) when we were there last summer. Compared to a lot of other hotels it seemed reasonable and it was very clean and modern.

85 would be a great deal for that area of manhattan, actually. I suspect that the ones you find on major sites will cost more. it sounds like you are not too far away, in which case the next time you’re in the city, keep an eye out for modest hotels and just ask them what their rates are.
there’s another one on that street (k-town) called la quita inn. I think it may be comparable.
