How to find cheap flights? We have specific dates, but we’re very flexible on where we go?

We’re trying to decide on a place to go over New Years. We know the dates, we’d like to go someplace warm, but other than that, we’re pretty open. Is there a search engine where you can just search for the cheapest flights from your location to any location during a certain date period?

There are sites like tripadvisor and such. First I’d decide on which tropical locale (or just warm, not necess tropical) via something like tripadvisor. Many ppl aren’t aware that you can get cheap rates directly thru the airlines. It will involve either time on the airlines website or on the phone, but you can get special deals & the representatives can also tell you a time of day or a specific day to fly out that will make it cheaper. Even a route that leaves from a different airport can be $50-100 less (if you are within an hour-2 hours from more than 1 airport). Adding a short layover or connection can reduce the cost if you don’t have to have a direct flight.
If you still aren’t sure about a destination but are willing to get out of the house, you can go to a travel agency & peruse the brochures. Just because you go in & look around & ask questions doesn’t mean you have to use their services. Many times they can get you special deals, though because they know the ins & outs of all realms of travel from cruises to flights, etc. (You don’t pay them; they get their commissions from the ppl who are in the travel industry.)
Keep flight time in mind. Let’s say you lived in the US on the east coast: flying to the Bahamas would be quicker than going to Hawaii or Tahiti. The point is to spend your time enjoying your destination & not wear yourself out with the transportation.

I would search a flight search engine that provides the most options.
Namely
try it out. They seem to be the ones with the most options available.
Good luck and happy new year!

offers you the possibility of looking for flights in many airlines and you can choose a date with 3 days before and after, it will show you a matrix with the fares and a graph with the trends fro that specific route through time.

I know of a website that allows you to basically search all the big sites from one location. Your best bet is BookMe.com. You can compare ALL the reputable sports tickets sites, and save money. Good luck!

Try. Enter the city you are flying from and it will give you a list of cities that the airlines are having a sale to.

Hi Bosstone,
One often overlooked site for finding cheap flights is Ebay, which receives millions of visitors each day. Do a search in Ebay for cheap flights and you might be surprised what you find.
If you want to travel to Europe then I would recommend visiting Goo Flight, 1800flyEurope, Expedia or Sky Scanner in that order.
If you want to travel to the US then I would recommend cheapflights.com, lowestfare.com and discountairfare.com.
If you want to travel to Australia then I would recommend cheapflightsaustralia.net.au.
No one site will have the cheapest flights all the time so is important to check each site for bargains.
Just type in the destination and travel dates into the search engine and you’ll be presented with a list of flights.
